What Does “Producer-Only” Mean? Food with Integrity.

At High Peaks Farmers Markets, being a producer-only market isn’t just a label—it’s a promise. It means:

  • Every vendor grows or makes what they sell. Whether it’s a farmer with vegetables, a woodworker with furniture, a baker with sourdough, or an artisan who crafts soaps—all products come directly from the hands of local producers or their employees. No middlemen or resellers.

  • Integrity and trust. Because you can trace your food and products back to the source, you can be confident about how things are grown, raised, or made. Organic or sustainable practices are standard among our producers.

  • Support for local economy and innovation. Producer-only markets help small farms and local artisans not just survive, but thrive. They encourage producers to try new crops, diversify offerings, and grow in ways that benefit the whole community.

  • Closer connection. When you shop here, you get to meet the people who raise the goats, tend the fields, bake the bread. You can ask questions about growing practices, seasonality, techniques—and get answers straight from the source. This builds relationships and strengthens local food systems.

Why It Matters

Choosing to shop at a producer-only market has ripple effects:

  • It ensures better quality and freshness, since producers are invested in their product from start to finish.

  • It helps sustain transparent and responsible farming/manufacturing practices.

  • It boosts the local economy, keeping money in our region rather than sending it to large, remote distributors.

  • It fosters environmental benefits—smaller scale, sustainable, less transport, and usually practices that are healthier for soil, water, and biodiversity.

We’re proud that High Peaks Farmers Markets are the sole producer-only farmers’ markets in the eastern Adirondacks.

If you are a farmer or food producer with high standards and an interest in joining a growing, energized community, come and join us!

The High Peaks Farmers’ Market thanks the Local Enhancement and Advancement Fund (LEAF) and the Town of North Elba for their generous support of our markets. This year’s grant funds will go towards supporting the move of our Lake Placid Farmers’ Market to the James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval and the implementation of our new Kids Club in Saranac Lake. It is our goal to get the word out to both locals and visitors.

Our “producer only” market provides a unique opportunity to buy fresh produce and locally made products. By supporting farmers markets, you help the local farmers, small business owners, and the environment. Healthy eating, local shopping, and small farm appreciation start here.

See you at the market!
